Brisbane, capital of Queensland, is a large, modern city set on the Brisbane River. Clustered in its South Bank cultural precinct are institutions including the Queensland Museum and Sciencecentre, with noted interactive exhibitions, and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, which is one of Australia’s leading contemporary art museums. Looming over the city is Mt. Coot-tha, site of sprawling Brisbane Botantic Gardens, with panoramic views from its summit.
As a subtropical city, Brisbane has bright, sunny days and generally experiences reasonably mild weather year round. Average temperatures are between 29C (84F) and 21C (70F) in Summer and 22C (72F) and 10C (50F) in Winter (when NIME 2016 is on).
Brisbane is the gateway to Queensland’s range of world-class tourist locations such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian Outback.
